Klassik in buntem Gewand - jetzt amal barock!

The COLIBRIS group presented/celebrated its premiere in June 2023 with the program(me) "Jetzt amal barock“ (baroque for now), with compositions by Pachelbel, J. S. Bach, Purcell, Handel, Vivaldi, Satie, Hahn and Reger, rearranged along the original sheet music, with freedom for improvisation and joy of playing, in some pieces provided with translations or new lyrics in Austrian dialect which provide additional appeal. The COLIBRIS ensemble strives to combine classical European music with other musical genres. Based on original works between early baroque music and impressionism, the sound material is reorganized and designed in newly defined structures. Using the stylistic means of other, non-classical musical traditions, classical music is dusted off and wrapped in a new, colorful and up-to-date garment. The performing ensemble consists of experienced musicians who are at home in as many different musical styles as hummingbirds have different colors: baroque, Viennese classical, romantic, jazz, West African, Indian, Irish folk, middle ages, Schrammelmusik, Viennese songs, pop, funk, rock, jazz, free improvisation, minimal music, new music, film music. A small swarm/flock of individualists. And just as the little hummingbird in the fable extinguish the fire in the jungle on its/his own, but simply beings to do so because doing nothing is not a solution either, all ensemble members contribute their share to make the old pieces shine in a new, colorful guise.
